Our Meeting

Like many Quaker meetings, we do not have paid clergy and are a volunteer-run organization. Friends are responsible for a wide range of roles within the meeting, ranging from serving coffee after worship to managing meetinghouse space rental to checking books in and out of our library on the first floor.

We meet once a month after worship for Meeting for Worship With Attention to Business to hear committee reports and conduct the business of our faith community. We invite you to join us; these sessions are a good way to learn more about Pittsburgh Friends Meeting and how Friends use their gifts to serve our meeting.

The person who presides over these business sessions is a clerk. At Pittsburgh Friends Meeting, this is a shared responsibility, with two or three Friends serving as co-clerks.

Committees

Because we have no paid clergy,

there are many committees that do the work of the meeting, from teaching our children to paying the bills. These are comprised of members of our Meeting community and active attenders are encouraged to get involved.

Our committees include Clearness & Care, Communications, Fall Gathering, Finance, First Day School, Hospitality, House, Library, Ministry, Outreach, Peace and Social Concerns, Personnel and Building Use, and Quaker Community Fund. You can click on the links above for each of these to reach the conveners through email.

There are also several groups whose goals involve Deepening in Spirit; Here is a description of these opportunities
